The architecture of the New Globe

The designers of the New Globe in London have included the result of a great deal of recent research in the design of the building. Though it is built exclusively with the techniques available to builders of Shakespeare's time, the architecture and ornamentation show clearly the influence of late renaissance Italian models. The doors onto the stage are round arches like those in the De Witt drawing of the Swan, and the columns imitate those of classical architecture.

The site for the New Globe has a great deal of information about Shakespeare's stage.
