About the Company

"In 1994 a group of artists were invited by Patrick Christopher Carter and Elizabeth Murphy to perform Twelfth Night in Point Pleasant Park on a volunteer basis. With no publicity other than word-of-mouth, these performances attracted an audience of over 2,500 in just one weekend. With the resounding support from the community and excellent critical notices, Shakespeare by the Sea Theatre Society was incorporated on September 19, 1994. Shakespeare by the Sea provides professional, outdoor classical theatre that is community-accessible, easy to understand, and artistically innovative."
