Description
It may sound oxymoronic to speak of a "silent film/musical" but this Wives seems to have been more an adaptation of Otto Nicolai's operatic version of Shakespeare's play than of Shakespeare's play itself. It should also be remembered that silent filmmakers were as fond of adapting operas to the screen as of using Shakespeare's plays. Live pianists, organists and even full orchestras filled in the silences
