Making Waves Fundraising Campaign
The Internet Shakespeare Editions has been a global leader in making the best literature freely available to those who thirst for knowledge. But large online projects such as these -- trusted, in-depth Shakespeare resources hundreds of thousands of students and scholars use every month -- need ongoing financial support to help ensure that the future is as successful as the past.
We need your support. In 2012, we launched the "Making Waves Fundraising Campaign": our goal is a dedicated endowment of 1.5 million dollars. Such an endowment will ensure we can continue to provide you, and the institution you serve, with the same high quality materials you have come to trust over the past decade. The first resource for many students today is the web, and when they land on our site they find:
- thousands of searchable, open access pages of resources on Shakespeare and his world;
- materials and plays that consistently meet academic standards;
- an elegant and user friendly interface;
- a deep understanding of the potential uses of the web;
- and a vision of its future applications for scholars, students and teachers.
These are some of the qualities that distinguish the Internet Shakespeare Editions from all other Shakespeare resources on the web.
Be part of the Wave
By becoming a "Friend of the ISE" your institution will help create a legacy for everyone with a passion for Shakespeare. An annual donation of $800 or $1,200 will create an impact that will be felt around the world. As a Friend of the ISE you will also be contributing to the development of websites devoted to other Renaissance dramatists that the ISE is "incubating" -- the Queen's Men Editions and Digital Renaissance Editions
Where do the funds go? As anyone who maintains a scholarly educational website will tell you, the digital medium requires constant development and maintenance. It takes many hours of thoughtful research and content development, computer programming, graphic design, editing in any given year to bring a polished and up-to-date resource to our global audience. Students and teachers expect websites to keep current: to use the full capabilities of the new media, and to provide effective interfaces for new digital devices like smartphones and tablets. All this puts extra pressure on an organization to find the means to adapt the website to match the expectations of our readers.
The ISE is a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping administration costs to a minimum. Our commitment to the Friends of the ISE is that all funds raised in the campaign will go to support the site. For more information on how we manage our funds, go to our page on the administration of the site.
