Only the second time that King John had been placed on screen, following the lost 1899 Sir Herbert Tree film. The BBC employed 36 actors in this live performance and expanded its spatial horizons by inserting some filmed sequences. There was also generous use of canned music. Unfortunately the scripts have been destroyed
