The books listed here will provide a general guide to Shakespeare in India, especially on the stage, to the English-knowing reader. Much of the material in this article has been taken from Indian-language (chiefly Bengali) publications, and from the monographs and anthologies cited in the text. Much material has also been obtained from press clippings, programmes etc. in the archives of the Natya Shodh Sansthan (Drama Research Centre), Kolkata, to whose authorities I am indebted.
