Description
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING is one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies. Teeming with testosterone fuelled youths, fumbling clowns and serious men of 'business', this production also emphasises the raw meat of a text infused with humiliation, revenge and brutality. Red Shift 's excursions into the classic repertoire have won awards internationally, and are always eagerly anticipated. Set in the excoriating moral vacuum of the Balkans in the early 1990s, a palpable atmosphere of suspicion and casual violence hangs in the air. Stalked by danger, two loving relationships splutter into life - one youthful and impetuous, the other mature, cynical and guarded - the courses of which are perverted and brought to the brink of disaster by the machinations of two ruthless brothers. Expect an evening of challenging theatre, unexpected shocks and laughter, respect for the text and outrageous liberties in equal measure. This is an exciting ensemble entertainment that works for Shakespeare enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
