Description

Another in the Bard Production video adaptations of Shakespeare's plays. (See also 27, 340, 477, 494.) As has been said before, the producer's big selling point for this series was the use of American rather than British actors, whom American students could more readily identify with their daily lives. In this production, for example, the well-known tv actor, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., plays Prospero. How successfully this series will compete with the BBC plays remains to be seen. The New York director, Joseph Papp, writing in The New York Times (13 May 1979: 2.32) bitterly complained about the exclusion of American actors from the BBC series, even though the BBC plays were partially underwritten with funds from the USA
