Description
An innovative movie that by searching for authenticity in the use of a hilltop town in northern Italy as a backdrop dazzled moviegoers of the Fifties. There were the inevitable outcries against its cavalier use or misuse of Shakespeare's text. And unfortunately the principal actors, Laurence Harvey and Susan Shentall, came through as more wooden than passionate. Yet the film paved the way for the later more successful 1968 Romeo and Juliet of Franco Zeffirelli
