Description

The textual authority for the play is the 1951 Peter Alexander edition of Shakespeare's plays, as modified by the director. This production of a rarely staged play displays the same resourcefulness in invoking the ambiance of the eastern Mediterranean that made the 1984 Comedy of Errors so visually attractive. The sounds of the sea are everywhere on the sound track to remind the audience that this narrative drama of the peregrinations of Pericles is every bit as sea-drenched as Midsummer Night's Dream is moon-drenched
