Description
The "Shakespeare in Perspective" series was made to accompany the BBC/Time Life Inc. "The Shakespeare Plays" series. Each 25-minute tape features a well-known British writer, critic, or theatre director. The distributor's blurb says that these are "brisk, unpretentious and enthusiastic guided tours . . . of William Shakespeare's most loved works." We are told that "noted critics, journalists and broadcasters take viewers from any sophistication level on a unique and highly subjective journey into Shakespeare's mind and time and explore the relevance of his works today." The seven in the series that are currently available in the United States are individually reviewed in this volume as follows: Ham. (142), JC (234), Lr. (269), Mac. (335), MND (411), Rom. (566) and Tmp. (624). The rest are in distribution in the British isles. Although Americans may be put off by their condescending tones of voice, the speakers nevertheless maintain a very high standard of discourse
