Description
A studio television production made by one of Britain's independent (non-BBC) television companies. Now suddenly this once rare production is widely available for a nominal cost on videocassette. "George Rylands of Cambridge University was brought in to advise and edit the script, and Michael Yates was appointed to design the sets. [The production] eschewed any attempt at the modern approach." It was made at Wembley Studio 5, with 200 stagehands, 400 lamps, and 40 lighting changes." And was declared to be "the most imaginative tv production of a Shakespeare play during the quarter-centenary year" (Blyth, Alan, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," TV Times 19 June 1964: 10+)
