Description
This film is an "offshoot" from Shakespeare's Macbeth, influenced by it, obviously shaped by it but with no pretensions whatsoever to representing Shakespeare's text on screen. Instead it creates another text from Shakespeare's text. Indeed it borrows extensively from the plot of Shakespeare's play to displace the Scottish tragedy into the underworld of Chicago's gangland. Its mere existence, however, along with so many other films of this category, powerfully testifies to the way that Shakespeare's plays still act as universal metaphors for the human condition
