Description

Produced as a part of the celebration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth in 1564. A recording of an earlier stage production by the Bristol Old Vic company in the Theatre Royal, Bristol. The Bristol Old Vic, a spinoff from the better known Old Vic in London, has a distinguished history. Among the more famous names who have been connected with it are Peter O'Toole, Dorothy Tutin, and Richard Pasco. This performance of Shakespeare's comedy went on tour in 45 cities and 16 countries before being recorded in Bristol in the fall of 1964. (See RT 3 June 1965: 12). The cast included 22 men and 5 women
