Description
As he also did with his 1982 Tempest, Paul Mazursky appropriates a Shakespearean theme for a tale of modern life. A retired 72-year old teacher, who quotes from King Lear as he is being evicted from his apartment, journeys across the country to visit with his children. Like King Lear he discovers that the disempowered old person receives scant respect from the world. The film was included in the Jan.-March 1986 Library of Congress film series, "Acting it Many Ways: Shakespeare on Film and Television," at the Pickford Theatre. It was introduced by Prof. S. Schoenbaum, who is generally acknowledged to be the world's most eminent authority in the field of Shakespeare biography
