Bernard Windt

BERNARD WINDT returns for his fourteenth season as Festival Music Director. In 1959 he created the score for the FestivaPs Oregon Centennial offering, The M.aske of the New World, and he has composed nearly all of the musical scores for Festival productions during his tenure here. He has created new musical realizations for John Gay^s work The Beggar's Of era as musical director 'for the 1966 Festival staging. This season he created arrangements for and will be Musical Director for the second annual matinee offering, Maid of the Mill, At the close of the 1963 season, Mr. Windt had composed music for all the plays in the Shakespeare canon. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Music at Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, and has done graduate work at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Michigan, and the University of Oregon. Mr. Windt is Director of Orchestra and Chorus in the Music Department of the Ashland Public Schools, and annually stages special music-dance productions with student talent.

BERNARD WINDT, Festival Director of Music, joins the Festival for his tenth season. He has composed music for nearly all of the Festivals productions during his ten years here, and in 1959 created the score for the Festivals Oregon Centennial offering, The Maske of the New World. His B.S. and M.S. degrees in music were taken at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., and he performed graduate work at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Michigan, and the University of Oregon. Among his essential interests have been ancient instruments, and the collecting of an extensive personal library of Elizabethan music. Mr. Windt is current Director of Orchestra and Chorus in the Music Department of the Ashland Public Schools.

BERNARD WINDT, Director of Music for the Oregon Shakespearean Festival, is now completing his sixth season in that capacity. Mr. Windt is also Director of Orchestra and Chorus in the Music Department of the Ashland Public Schools. Included in his Festival activity is the instruction of music courses for the Institute of Renaissance Studies. Mr. Windt received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in music at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, and has taken graduate work at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Michigan, and the University of Oregon. His teaching assignments were in New York and Pennsylvania prior to Oregon. He is an ancient instruments enthusiast and has collected an extensive personal library of Elizabethan music, both of which pursuits have been essential to his Festival work. Recently Mr. Windt conducted special research at the Huntington Library, seeking new possibilities in unpublished Elizabethan music.

BERNARD WINDT, Ashland, Oregon, has been Festival Music Director since 1953. During these years he has composed original music for all of the plays in the Shakespearean canon, as well as nearly all of the scores for the FestivaPs period musical productions. In 1959 he created the score for The Maske of the New World, which was presented as the Festival' ial recognition of the Oregon Centennial. Other origins scores he has composed for Festival productions include The Beggar's Opera, new arrangements for The Maid of the Mill, and original music of Elizabethan character and instrumentation for each season ^s Shakespearean plays. Mr. Windt received his M.S. degree in Music from Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, followed by advanced study at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan. He is a Visiting Instructor of Music at Southern Oregon College in Ashland and possesses the unique talent of being an accomplished luthier.

Mr. Windt is Director of Orchestra and Chorus in the Music Department of the Ashand Public Schools and this fall opens his own studio in Medford for private instruction.
