Hugh C. Evans
HUGH C. EVANS returns for his tenth Festival season and his third as a Director. In previous seasons he has appeared as Justice Shallow in King Henry IV, Part Two, Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing, Able Drugger in The Alchemist, Gremio in The Taming of the Shrew, Nestor in Troilus and Cressida, Sir Hugh Evans in Merry Wives of Windsor, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night. His directorial assignments for the Festival have been The Winters Tale, and A Midsummer Nights Dream. For six years he held the post of Festival Lighting Designer and Director. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Theatre from Stanford. Mr. Evans is Assistant Professor of English and Associate Director of the Green Room Theatre at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa. This past season at Franklin and Marshall he staged Twelfth Night and The Caucasian Chalk Circle. His many directorial assignments there have included A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, One Way Pendulum, The Alchemist, and Thieves Carnival.

HUGH C. EVANS, Milwaukie, Wis., returns for his fifth Festival season, and his fourth year as the Festivals Lighting Designer and Director. He has appeared on the Festival stage as Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing, Nestor in Troilus and Cressida, and as Gremio in The Taming of the Shrew, In 1961, he portrayed Able Drugger in the special Festival production of The Alchemist, He received his B.S. degree in English from the University of Wisconsin, and his M.A. in Theatre from Stanford University, where he is currently a doctoral candidate. This fall, he will join the faculty at Franklin and Marshall College, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

For the last six years, he has also held the post of Lighting Designer and Director. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Theatre from Stanford University. Mr. Evans is Assistant Professor of English and Associate Director of the Green Room Theatre, Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa. This past season at Franklin and Marshall, he directed productions of The Alchemist and Thieves Carnival. Among his other directing credits are The Winters Tale and a special performance of The Sandbox for a benefit which featured Chita Rivera, Hermione Gingold, and The Helen Hayes Repertory Company.

HUGH C. EVANS, Milwaukee, Wisc., earned his B.A. at Wisconsin State College and his M.A. in Drama at Stanford, where he is currently a Ph.D. candidate and holds a teaching assistantship. At Stanford he has appeared recently as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Sir Andrew in Twelfth Night, Corbaccio in Volpone, Demekos in Tiger at the Gates, and was in the KPIX-TV presentations in San Francisco of Fashion and Twelfth Night. He has entertained in the Milwaukee area and elsewhere with his own magic act. His stock credits include work with the National Theatre Group at Elkhart Lake, Wise., the Milwaukee Civic Light Opera Company, and tours with the Trailer Theatre for children.

HUGH C. EVANS appeared last season with the acting company here and returns in 1959 to serve as Lighting Designer. After earning his B.S. in Secondary Education at Wisconsin State College, he completed his M.A. work at Stanford in Drama, where he is currently a Ph.D. candidate. For two years he has held a technical assistantship in lighting at Stanford, teaching stage lighting and oral interpretation, designing lighting, and executing lighting for major productions at Stanford. His roles there include Bottom in A Midsummer Nights Dream, Demekos in Tiger at the Gates, and Sir Andrew in Twelfth Night, Last season here he was seen as Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing and Nestor in Troilus and Cressida.
