Gene Chesley

GENE CHESLEY, Palo Alto, Calif., last seasons Designer-Technical Director, returns for his seventh season this year as Master Carpenter. He obtained his B.A. degree in Speech Arts from Sacramento State College and is pursuing graduate studies at Stanford University where he has been a technical assistant. He designed sets and costumes for The Lark at the Palo Alto Community Theatre as his M.A. production thesis and for Stanfords Outer Circle Theatre designed La Parisienne. As designer-director for the West Bay Opera Company in Palo Alto, he designed and directed Puccinis Gianni Schicchi, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, and The Outcasts of Poker Flat. He also directed Il Trovatore and designed sets for Pagliacci and Angelique.

GENE CHESLEY, Technical Assistant in stage production, is spending his first year at the Festival. A recent graduate of Sacramento State College, where he obtained a B.A. in Speech Arts, he has also had performance experience as an actor and singer. While attending Yuba Junior College he was seen as Amiens in As You Like It. At Sacramento State he was Putnam in The Crucible, and directed a Japanese Folk Play in which he also performed as the Property Manager. Future plans include further studies in Drama.

GENE A. CHESLEY, Technical Director, returns to Ashland for his sixth season with the Oregon Shakespearean Festival. He obtained his B.A. degree in Speech Arts from Sacramento State College, where he was seen as Putnam in The Crucible and as the Property Manager in a Japanese Folk Play, a production he directed. As a designer-director for the West Bay Opera Company in Palo Alto, he designed and directed Puccinis Gianni Schicchi in 1958, Mozarts Marriage of Figaro in 1959, and in 1960 designed and directed the West Coast premiere of a new American opera, The Outcasts of Poker Flat by Jonathan Elkus. This past year with the West Bay Company he directed 77 Trovatore as well as designing sets for Madame Butterfly and Carmen. Other recent design credits include the Palo Alto Community Theatre production of Rashomon.
