Edmund M. Chavez

EDMUND M. CHAVEZ serves the triple function of Master Carpenter, Heraldic Advisor, and Director of Swordplay for the Festival. Now in his fifth Ashland season, he was Technical Director in 1953 and 1954. He earned his B.A. in Drama and History at Southwest Texas and his M.F.A. in Drama at the University of Texas. He is currently Assistant Professor of Drama at the University of Idaho in Moscow, where he serves as Director, Designer, and Technician During the past season he directed Strindberg's The Father and Wilders Our Town and designed both The Teahouse of the August Moon and The Happiest Millionaire'.

EDMUND M. CHAVEZ, after an absence of two years, returns to the Festival to be its Master Carpenter. For two seasons, in 1953 and 1954, he was Technical Director here. Mr. Chavez gained his B.A. in History and Drama at Southwest Texas, and his M.F.A. in Drama at the University of Texas. He has worked extensively in community theatre projects, and is presently an Assistant Professor of Dramatics at the University of Idaho, where he also serves as Technical Director. This fall he will be working toward his doctorate at Stanford University.

ALBAN F. VARNADO, of Baton Rouge, La., is serving his first season at Festival Lighting Director. He gained his B.A*, M.A., and Ph.D. in Speech and Drama at Louisiana State University, and is currently Associate Director and Assistant Professor of Speech at University Theatre, University of Kansas City. His directing experience includes a season at the Baton Rouge Civic Theatre staging Claudia, The Male Animal, and other shows, together with several productions to his credit at Kansas City University, including Much Ado About Nothing, Teahouse of the August Moony and Darkness at Noon. In stage lighting he has worked two seasons at Kansas City's Starlight Theatre and lighted several dramas and operas at L.S.U.
