Mrs. Sarah Siddons
Sarah Siddons (1755-1831) was a British actress and member of the famous Kemble family of actors. She is lauded as the best-known tragedienne of the 18th century. Born Sarah Kemble, she was the daughter of actor-manager Roger Kemble and the elder sister of John Philip Kemble, Charles Kemble, Stephen Kemble, Ann Hatton, and Elizabeth Whitlock. She was most famous for her portrayal of Lady Macbeth, but she played numerous leading Shakespearean characters, many alongside her brother John Philip. At the age of 18 she married William Siddons and together they had 7 children, 5 of which Sarah outlived.
