About the Company

The Annapolis Shakespeare Company is a non-profit 501(c)3 theatre company dedicated to the works of Shakespeare and other classics founded by Sally Boyett-DʼAngelo in the summer of 2009 and incorporated in the fall of 2010. The Annapolis Shakespeare Company endeavors to provide young people with performing arts opportunities which will inspire and educate the next generation of performing artists and theater patrons. Over the past two and a half years, the Annapolis Shakespeare Company has provided an opportunity for over 150 students from 5 counties across Maryland to study and perform Shakespeareʼs works for audiences in Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties. During their very first season, the Annapolis Shakespeare Company produced An Evening With the Bard I, Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, As You Like It and A Midsummer Night's Dream. ASC's second season opened with Shakespeare's Hamlet, follwed by An Evening with the Bard II, Thornton Wilder's Our Town, and closed with the critically acclaimed summer workshop production of Twelfth Night. The Annapolis Shakespeare Company's third (and current) season opened with a fall production of Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor and continues with an upcoming spring production of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and a summer workshop production of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors. The Annapolis Shakespeare Company offers acting technique, Lessac voice & body and stage combat classes to young people in the community. Beginning in the summer of 2012, the company will offer workshops and classes at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. The Annapolis Shakespeare Company is the newest of four resident companies at the Bowie Playhouse in White Marsh Park, where they perform three full-length productions each season for a total of 24 performances for the public. The company recently collaborated with the Annapolis Opera in a Shakespeare-themed concert at Maryland Hall and regularly brings in guest artists from Baltimore and Washington DC to work with the company on voice, dialect and stage combat. The Annapolis Shakespeare Company is excited to sponsor their first Young Actors Shakespeare Festival on April 21, 2012 at the Bowie Playhouse where they will give students the opportnuity to perform scenes and monologues from Shakespeare's works as well as participate in exciting master classes. Mission Statement: The Annapolis Shakespeare Company provides performing arts opportunities and education for young people in Anne Arundel and Prince Georgeʼs counties through the study and performance of Shakespeare and other classic theatre.
