Spotlights: Shakespeare in Performance
This page features spotlights on specific areas of interest to be found in Shakespeare in Performance. Our initial spotlight is on the extensive material to be found in the database on Shakespeare and film.
Shakespeare and film
Thanks to the generosity of the author, the database Shakespeare In Performance includes the authoritative work on Shakespeare and film. Shakespeare on Screen: An International Filmography and Videography was originally compiled by Kenneth S. Rothwell and Annabelle Henkin Melzer and published in 1990 (New York: Neal-Schuman). The book was converted to electronic format, and considerably revised and expanded for the Internet Shakespeare Editions by José Ramón Díaz Fernández, Tanya Gough, and Kenneth S. Rothwell.
Professor Rothwell has written an updated Introduction to these materials: "Shakespeare on Screen: A Chronicle History."
