Description
The average person must have had not more than one chance in a lifetime to see even an amateur performance of rarely performed Timon before this splendid recording on magnetic tape. Watching Timon gyrate from foolish trust and generosity ("Nev'r speak or think/ That Timon's fortunes 'mong his friends can sink" [2.2.230]) to paranoid misanthropy ("I am sick of this false world, and will love nought" [4.3.375]), is exemplary for those who, having given too much, feel the sting of the world's ingratitude. There is much ancient wisdom here about the perils of going from excess to defect that can profitably be re-examined even today (KSR)
