Description
Director Stuart Burge was able to use this television production as preparation for his 1969 film version with Jason Robards, Jr. and Charlton Heston. If this video could be screened at the BBC Archive, it would be interesting to compare it with the subsequent film. According to Peter Morris the extensive battle scenes were designed to wipe out the image of "staginess" so often associated with television drama. At a price tag of £8,152 and with a cast of ninety-nine, it was a generous undertaking
