Description
Filmed in and around the environs of Northwestern University and cleverly exploiting the abandoned University of Chicago football stadium (which also produced the atom bomb), the film was made on a tiny budget of $15,000. That investment paid handsome dividends for some of the principals, however. Charlton Heston, who in this film first played a Roman hero, went on to fame and glory in Hollywood and the producer, David Bradley, was also favored with a Hollywood contract. For what was essentially an amateur production, the film was a remarkable achievement.
