Description
An early PR blurb announced that this film was "an epoch-making picture of Henry VIII, as given by Sir Herbert Tree at His Majesty's Haymarket Theatre." Proximity to London's West End theatres was an accidental but major force in the shaping of the British film industry, not all to its benefit. By comparison in North America the fledgling movie industry soon left New York and its theatres in favor of Hollywood. The clean break with the New York theatres allowed film in Hollywood to concentrate on innovations in cinema instead of being straitjacketed by stage traditions
