Internet Shakespeare Editions

ISE: Copyright Policy

All items published on the site of the Internet Shakespeare Editions, whether text, image, sound or video files, are copyright. They may in all cases, however, be used for educational, non-profit purposes.

Many images are generously made available by libraries, museums, and galleries around the world. In each case, copyright is held by the institution that owns the image; the owner is clearly indicated on the same page as the image, as is a link to their web site. All uses of these images for other than educational, non-profit purposes must be negotiated with the owner of the copyright.

Texts of the plays and poems are copyright the editor; in cases where the works have not yet been edited, copyright rests with the Internet Shakespeare Editions. Other written materials, such as critical articles, are copyright the authors. In each case the same conditions apply: all uses of these images for other than educational, non-profit purposes must be negotiated with the owner of the copyright.

If there is no specific copyright notice, the materials are copyright of the Internet Shakespeare Editions. Queries concerning the use of materials where copyright resides in the Internet Shakespeare Editions should be directed to <iseadmin[at]uvic.ca>.

Every attempt has been made to ensure that graphics and other items published on the site have been cleared for copyright. If any visitor to the site is aware of an instance where copyright has been violated, please contact <iseadmin[at]uvic.ca> with details.
