Description

Royston Morley's Richard II is the first full-length television treatment of an English history play, a kind of precursor to subsequent extravaganzas such as An Age of Kings. To that end the BBC committed over £2,000, elaborate sets, and a cast of thirty-six. At one point a professional boxing match threatened to usurp the 8:00 o'clock time slot but apparently that menace evaporated for the production is listed as starting at 8:00 P.M (WAC T5/430 2 Nov. 1950)
