Description
Part of a series of twelve British educational films showing scenes intended "to serve as an introduction to each play's theme or atmosphere." (See also numbers 131, 164, 232, 326, 430, 467, 490, 510, 556, 601, 619.) In this part there are episodes from <I>Antony and Cleopatra</I>: Enobarbus' description of his stay in Egypt and his description of her barge (2.2); and Cleopatra's suicide by means of the asps in a basket of figs (5.2). The films were also designed to reproduce the conditions of acting in Elizabethan times. For example by having the same actors play several roles, the students are to glean some idea of how the plays were originally written "for a specific company of actors" (P.R. blurb, IFB). A word of caution: This series, the "IFB," can easily be confused with "The Shakespeare Series" (BHE/BFA), which is a series of six abbreviated versions of the plays (see numbers 41, 228, 258, 323, 406, and 656)
