Description

The program has the distinction, along with As You Like It, transmitted immediately before it on the same day (see 35), of having been a part of the inauguration of televised Shakespearean drama. The scene selected seems to have been the wooing of Princess Catherine by King Henry after the defeat of the French at Agincourt. The BBC has a still from the production in its archives. For lack of technology, no recording is preserved, though at the time no one would have thought it worth saving for the archives anyway. The BBC's function was to transmit not to preserve
