Description

By using the same principal actors that appeared in 1H4, this production offers a rare opportunity to witness on screen the ongoing fortunes of Prince Hal, Falstaff and company. In 1H4, as has been noted by others, Hal wins his spurs as a warrior at Shrewsbury; here in 2H4 he demonstrates his statesmanship at Westminster. He thus becomes the epitome of the renaissance prince skilled in the talents of both the lion and the fox. Set designer Homfray also noted that the opening up of the social scene in the second part of Henry IV created difficult problems. He had to include not only tavern but also countryside; not only court but battlefield
