The Internet Shakespeare Editions and Broadview Press are pleased to announce their collaboration on a new series of Shakespeare editions in book form, creating for each volume an "integrated text" designed to meet the needs of university and college students.

Broadview / ISE Editions

The texts, introductions, and other materials for these editions will be drawn from those prepared for the Internet Shakespeare Editions, modified as appropriate to suit the demands of publication in book form. The editions will provide full explanatory annotation and draw occasionally on the more detailed levels of annotation that will be available electronically on the ISE site. Consistent with other Broadview editions, each ISE / Broadview edition will include a wide range of background materials -- providing information on the staging of each play, as well as on its historical and intellectual context -- in addition to the text itself, introduction, chronology, and bibliography. The availability of additional materials on the ISE site will where appropriate be flagged for the reader.

Much as these editions will offer an extraordinarily wide range of material, they will be affordably priced for the student reader.

The first group of ISE / Broadview editions will be available in 2006.

The Internet Shakespeare Editions

The ISE, a non-profit organization founded in 1996, creates and publishes works for the student, scholar, actor, and general reader in a form native to the medium of the Internet: scholarly, fully annotated texts of Shakespeare's plays, multimedia explorations of the context of Shakespeare's life and works, and records of his plays in performance. Materials already available through the ISE include accurate transcriptions of all the major early texts of Shakespeare's plays, and an extensive site on Shakespeare's life and times. Currently the ISE site receives requests for approximately 25,000 pages per day. The ISE is affiliated with the University of Victoria
