Shakespeare or Bust

We are trying to establish the provenance of a colored plaster-cast of a Shakespeare bust presumably modeled on the Shakespeare monument at Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon. The bust was originally purchased by a Mr. G.H.B. Franklin, and brought by him to Canada probably between 1900 and 1910. His son, Bernard George Franklin died this year; he bequeathed the bust to the English Department at the University of Victoria.

The bust stands 14" high, and measures 10 1/2" by 9" at the base. It measures 23" around the cranium (from the middle of the forehead). It is in quite good condition given its age.

If you have any information that may help in identifying the sculptor or the value (for insurance purposes) of this bust, please contact Dr. David Thatcher,
